St. Augustine city commissioners tonight will be looking at a proposed development at the corner of West King Street and U.S. 1. Barry Broudy has been talking with City Manager John Regan who is looking for financing by the private sector so the city can lease or own parts of the 5-acre property. Broudy’s Liquors is in a portion of the location. Plans being discussed include a five-story parking garage, 33,700 square feet of commercial space, 160 workforce apartments and possibly a pedestrian walkover on U.S. 1. Moving the St. Augustine Police Department from King Street to West King Street has been discussed. This is the initial discussion and federal money would probably be needed, Work wouldn’t begin for several years.
Authorities are seeking the hit-and-run driver who left a 31-year-old Satsuma woman dead by the roadside in San Mateo Saturday. Lindsay Walker was walking along U.S. 17 near Bear Boulevard when she was struck by an unknown vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man wanted by Georgia authorities for violation of probation. Brant Odom, 40, is considered dangerous and has a lengthy criminal history in Florida and Georgia including serving prison time. He makes trips through Florida and has a presence in Putnam County. He has been seen driving two different vehicles including a 2013 maroon Dodge Ram with a black tailgate and a newer model gray Chevrolet Colorado. Call the Sheriff’s office if you have information, but do not approach Odom.
In St. Augustine a bicyclist was struck by a car shortly before noon Friday on U.S. 1. The woman was taken by air ambulance to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries
Two people were found dead in a home on South Oak Drive in The Palms in Nocatee on Saturday afternoon. The case is under investigation and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says it’s unclear what the relationship was between the man and woman found. The woman has been identified as Lynn Bender, a realtor for Remax. She was supposed to host an open house at the home in which she was found.
North Florida Land Trust has announced owners of Fish Island in St. Augustine have agreed to sell the 57-acre property on the Intracoastal Waterway on Anastasia Island. That would save the property from development. In 2018 the city’s Planning and Zoning Board rejected a proposed residential development of up to 170 homes. North Florida is a nonprofit organization that buys and preserves property.
An entertainment center in Bunnell has been shut down by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office after an undercover operation. Dakota Joe’s Senior Entertainment Center was found to have five gaming devices that paid winners in money, which is illegal.
Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help to identify a suspect deputies say stole doors from a semi. Doors from the driver’s and passenger’s side were stolen off a 2014 Kenworth semi truck owned by C&W Trucking. A photo is online at the Sheriff’s Office site.
