SAINT AUGUSTINE – Here’s a blast from the past shared on Facebook by Fred Whitley.
Long ago staffers at The St. Augustine Record will remember the fun times each Christmas when the late Ruth and Cecil Walker hosted newsroom and composing room staffers to a Christmas breakfast. Ruth was executive secretary to then publisher A.H. “Hoopie” Tebault Jr. Cecil was assistant manger at Marineland of Florida.
Before dawn, staffers would gather at the Walker home for a terrific repast prepared by the couple and served at their home. At the time they were living in the Marineland building on Cuna Street, built as part of the Quadricentennial celebration for this oldest city. Whitley says the building is now a restaurant.
This photo was taken by David Redman, the Walkers’ son-in-law. A former St. Augustine resident, he and wife, Kathy, now reside in North Carolina.
