Days of December Advent Calendar
Each day of December has special memories, meanings and traditions. Once a day we’ll be adding to our calendar of days.
We’re starting off with an Advent calendar. Advent comes from the Latin word meaning “coming” and the calendars are used to count down to Christmas. For Western Christian churches, Advent is the season of waiting and preparing for the Nativity of Jesus.
This calendar has been around since the 1950s. Look carefully and you’ll see numbered windows. Each day you opened a window and found an item. A couple of the windows on the right side are open and feature a lady bug, an angel and a toy baby carriage. German Lutherans are credited with coming up with the calendars, which first came into use in the 19th century.
