First Coast Opera is busy group
SAINT AUGUSTINE – Saint Augustine-based First Coast Opera (FCO), northeast Florida’s only professional opera company, announces a series of upcoming events.
First the organization is providing two free master classes for aspiring performers and writers led by FCO guest artist and Yale School of Drama graduate Nelson Sheeley and held at the Limelight Theatre, 11 Old Mission Ave.
The first class, “Auditioning for the Stage” is Saturday March 11 at 3 p.m. Singers of all ages and abilities may participate and receive feedback in mock auditions. Singers interested in participating should contact FCO Artistic Director Curtis Tucker atctuckermusic@gmail.com. A limited number of spaces are available.
The second class, “Playwriting/Libretto Development” is Friday March 17 , from 3 to 5 p.m. Sheeley and Tucker will discuss the differences in writing for plays and operas, as well as the composer-librettist relationship in writing opera.
Both masterclasses are free and open to the general public.
FASHION SHOW
The Raintree Restaurant, San Marco Avenue, will be the setting Thursday, March 9 for a fashion show presented by The Friends of First Coast Opera. This last event of the season for the Friends begins at 11:30 a.m.
Donation is $35 per person. Checks should be made out to The Friends of First Coast Opera and mailed to 138 Heron’s Nest Lane, St. Augustine, Fl. 32080
TRAIL OF BB WOLF
Tucker and Sheeley’s second opera, The Trial of B. B. Wolf, will be performed by First Coast Opera on March 16 and 18 at the Ancient City Baptist Church in Saint Augustine.
