The Story of Purim
Nearly 2,000 years ago in Sushan, Persia, the King’s advisor, Haman, developed an evil plot to annihilate the Jewish people. Courageously, Queen Esther spoke out on behalf of her fellow Jews and saved them from destruction. They rejoiced at their survival, a custom which continues around the world today. Purim celebrations began in Florida in 1880 in Jacksonville, followed by Pensacola, Tallahassee and Key West.
