FLAGLER BEACH – Flagler County offers what you might call surf and turf festivals this weekend (March 25 and 26).
At the Flagler Beach Pier it’s the Flagler Surf Series No. 9 featuring pro/am surfing competitions on the south side of the pier. The series runs Saturday and Sunday. Competition starts at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and runs through 5 p.m. Sunday.
As for the “turf,” you should head for the Flagler County Fairgrounds in Bunnell Saturday and the annual Flagler County Cattlemen’s Cracker Day.
It’s a salute to the area’s “cracker” heritage and the days when cattle and agriculture were the way of life. Expect a crowd. The Cattlemen have been putting on the event for 62 years, and people in the area have learned it’s the place to go.
Events include bull riding, steer riding, steer saddlin’, sack races, jackpot barrel racing, chute doggin’, ribbon ropin’, chicken chase, pig chase and boot race.
Rough rider games begin at 8 a.m., opening ceremony is at noon. Barbecue lunch is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The $10 entry buys you a day filled with rodeo events, history and a barbecue lunch. It’s a deal.
Children 3 and under get in free. The fairgrounds are at 150 Sawgrass Road. The event takes place rain or shine.
