Smelly star cactus

Q:    I have some cactus that grows in a sunny bed as a ground cover. It has a large flower that stinks. What is the name of this cactus?

A:    This succulent is probably a star cactus. It will get a bloom with a bad smell which can attract flies. If in the right place it can be a low maintenance plant.
