White named city archaeologist

SAINT AUGUSTINE – Andrea White,former Greater New Orleans Regional Archaeologist and Director of the Greater New Orleans Regional Archaeology Program, has succeeded City Archaeologist Carl Halbirt on his retirement Sept.r 29.

White is a Florida native, her William and Mary Master’s thesis was on the Yamassee site of La Punta here, she was a student of University of Florida Distinguished Research Curator of Archaeology Kathy Deagan, and has both volunteered and contracted with St. Augustine’s archaeology program.

Her specialties include historic archaeology, public archaeology, cultural resources management, and southeastern United States archaeology.

Halbirt retired after 27 years as the city’s first and only staff archaeologist.
