St. Ceilia to be honored at festival

SAINT AUGUSTINE – Choirs from local churches will come together to honor St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church,
The Ecumenical Choral Festival will include church choirs of the First United Methodist, Grace United Methodist, Memorial Presbyterian, Memorial Lutheran, St. Monica’s (Palatka), Our Lady Star of the Sea (Ponte Vedra) St. Cyprian, and St. Anastasia.
“The music will be set as a peace service, with all of the selections focused on praying for peace and unity.” Peter Morin, music director at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, organizer of the annual festival, stated. “We anticipate over 100 singers,” Morin added.
Concert highlights will include performances by each church choir, and a special presentation by the combined choirs of Memorial Presbyterian, Grace Methodist and Ancient City Baptist Church. The concert finale will feature all of the choirs joining together to sing the final set of music.
Admission to the concert is non-perishable food items or financial donations to assist the work of Home Again St. Johns, a non-profit organization working to alleviate homelessness in St. Johns County by actively engaging homeless individuals in implementing their own return to self-sufficiency. A reception will follow the concert in the parish community center.
