American flag project is Memorial Day tribute sponsored by Pilot Club
SAINT AUGUSTINE – The Pilot Club of St. Augustine will once again place American flags in front of the Lightner Building during the Memorial Day Weekend. Individuals are invited to submit the names of those who have served and include branch of service. Deadline for submissions is May 18.
These names will be placed on the flags which will be displayed from May 26 and removed at 6 p.m. May 28.. All branches of the service will be included. A patriotic contribution to the community there is no charge, but donations are always welcomed..
Name requests or donations can be mailed to 285 S. Matanzas Blvd., St. Augustine, FL 32080, or names provided by email to sellott@aol.com, or by telephone to 904-824-1268; please leave name requests on answering machine.. Information should include the individual’s name and branch of service. All branches of services are included in the tribute including the Florida National Guard, Merchant Marine, Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force.
The Memorial Day tribute has been an ongoing project of the Pilot Club with names saved from year to year. This year, members of the Pilot Club invite volunteers from the community to join club members Saturday, May 26 at 8 a.m., in placing the flags in front of the Lightner Building. More than 500 flags are to be placed. Volunteers are asked to bring a large screwdriver/spike and hammer to help create the holes for the flags. It’s also recommended that individuals wear hats and sunscreen.
Volunteers need not call or confirm attendance in advance.
