Sabbath services at the synagogue

SAINT AUGUSTINE – Rabbi Joel Fox will again be joining us to lead Sabbath services this coming weekend of July 27 and 28.

July 27 corresponds with the Hebrew date of 15 Av 5788.  According to Rabbi Fox, this 15th Day of Av is called Tu B’av, and it is both an ancient and a modern holiday.  In ancient times, it served as a matchmaking day for unmarried women, and in  modern times, it has became more like the Jewish Valentine’s Day highlighting love and romance.  Also, since the Hebrew months are based on the lunar calendar, and Tu B’av comes the night of a full moon, it was common, especially in the ancient times, to link romance, love, and fertility with the full moon.

Rabbi Fox will have as a theme for the Sabbath services a celebration recognizing joy, fun, and harmony.  Services Friday are at 7:30 pm, and on Saturday are at 10 am.  For more information, call (904) 829-9532, or e-mail, fcsi1924@gmail.com.
