When do sweet potatoes appear?

Q:   I planted sweet potatoes in a 30-gallon pot. It is now growing over everything. When do I get sweet potatoes?

A:   Sweet potatoes take four to five months from planting to harvest. Being in a pot the soil temperature may slow tuber formation. Scratch around the pot to see if you can discover any harvestable tubers.

Q:    I would like to know how to grow the Mallow type hibiscus from seed.

A:    Collect a dried pod from the plant and remove the seed. They can be planted right away or saved (if stored in a cool place). Soak the seed overnight and then plant shallow in a container of soil. Seed can take up to several weeks to germinate.
