Check out state park events for month

SAINT AUGUSTINE – Anastasia and Fort Mose state parks have announced the schedule for October. Among the highlights:

Monthly Militia – 9 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 6 at Fort Mose, with musket firing demonstrations as the Castillo de San Marcos Militia train with the Fort Mose Militia. The program is free, but there is a $2 per person entrance at the Visitor Center.

Children under 6 are free. For more information about events at Fort Mose Historic State Park please call 904-823-2232.

Tour Old Spanish Quarries: 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at Anastasia  State Park; and Oct. 27 10 to 11 a.m. After checking in at the Ranger Station meet for the program in the quarry parking area by the front entrance gate.

The program is free with park admission of $8 per vehicle, limit 2-8 people; $4 single occupant; $2 pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of annual individual entrance pass.

Anastasia Dunes Trail Hike: 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at Anastasia State Park. Cost is the same as for Spanish quarries tour.

Coastal Cleanup: 8 to 1 a.m. Oct. 13 at Anastasia State Park. Dress for the weather. Trash bags will be provided. Park entry is free for participating volunteers. RSVP to Rita Roberts, rrinletplace@att.net.\

Feathered Friends’ Hike & Marsh Walk: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at Fort Mose. There is no cost. Information: 904-823-2232.

Coffee with a Ranger: 8 to 8:30 a.m. Oct. 19 at Anastasia State Park. This is a Q&A session. The admission is same as for Spanish quarries program.

Let’s Talk Turtle: 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at Anastasia State Park for the subject of sea turtles. The regular admission fees are requested.

Guided Bird Walk: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at Anastasia State Park. Regular admission fees are requested. The event is weather permitting.
