Shabbat services at synagogue

SAINT AUGUSTINE – Rabbi Fox will be again joining members of the First Congregation Sons of Israel to lead the Shabbat services Friday at  7:30 p.m., and Saturday, at 10 a.m.

This coming Shabbat is Shabbat Shuvah or “The Sabbath of Return.”  It is the Shabbat that falls between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and it comes from the Haftarah that begins “Shuvah Yisrael” or “Return, O Israel.” In addition, Rabbi Fox has asked us to join him with the traditional Tashlich ceremony that will be held after the Shabbat service.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. Oct. 5, , Rabbi Fox plans a walk from the synagogue to Lake Maria Sanchez, which is located south of the synagogue at the intersection of Cordova and St. Francis streets. He will be conducting  the ceremony, during which Jews symbolically cast away our sins into the water, at 12:45 p.m.
