Question about low juniper

Q: I want to plant a low juniper plant along the front of my house. Could you suggest a type that stays less than two feet high and is not blue-green in color?

A:  To stay that low, you would want those junipers that are ground covers. Suggestions: Shore Juniper, plumrosa, parsoni or Andorra.

Q:  I grabbed a prickly weed whose stem and veins are reddish. Spines are on the stem and trunk. Do you know what it is?

A: It is probably prickly ash. This weed can grow into a small tree with a spiny trunk. It is most common in dry areas.
