The 25th annual St. Augustine Youth Services (SAYS) benefit holiday auction gets derway at 1 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Trade Winds Lounge.
For 25 years, The Trade Winds Lounge has been hosting this annual auction. Janet Leonard’s parents, Duke and Toni Leonard, owned the iconic downtown bar since the 60’s and it was and continues to be THE place in St. Augustine to hear live music.
Schuyler Siefker, SAYS cxecutive director, recalls how “Aunt” Liz, Toni Leonard’s sister, started the auction 25 years ago, “She collected the items and Toni got the bands to play for free. Twenty-five years later we have sadly lost Liz and Toni but their love for our children and community has remained and the Trade Winds family continues to keep this tradition alive.”
The music begins at 1 p.m. and continues off and on until past midnight. There will be hundreds of items up for a live auction including manicures, pedicures, foursomes of golf, jewelry, restaurant and lodging gift certificates, autographs of Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffet, Eric Clapton and more.
Janet Leonard, current owner of the Trade Winds has this to say about SAYS, “Hard to believe we started this event 25 years ago! My family and the Trade Winds Lounge LOVES SAYS and will continue to support them as long as we’re around.”
Bands include Smokin Joe, Mark Hart, Keith Godwin & The Rio Grande Band, Jonny & Lori Pellicer, Those Guys, Cotton Mouth and Moses Creek.
Celebrity Guest Auctioneers will entertain the crowd with a live auction: Jessica Kobryn, Lori Pellicer, Letti Bozard, Troy Blevins & Mike Davis and Lisa McPhillips.
St. Augustine Youth Services (SAYS), a therapeutic group home for abused and neglected boys, is celebrating 27 years of service. SAYS is a nonprofit organization with a staff of professionals who are specially trained to deal with problems unique to children from abusive homes. The auction proceeds will help support the SAYS Hutson Family Campus to continue to provide a safe, stable home for the boys in which to love, learn, grow and heal both physically and emotionally.
