Artist Waters One-Man Show Set

ST. AUGUSTINE – Scott Waters opens his new one-man show Friday, Dec. 3 at HotShot Bakery, 47 Cordova St. Included will be recent digital work as well as traditional paintings and drawings.

Scot, a professional portrait and landscape painter, commercial artist, designer and self-described “tech geek,” is a founding member of the Anonymous Society of Artists, a local group involved in events, shows, plein-air sessions and new media. His work has been shown at Butterfield Too Gallery, the St. Johns County Building, Tim’s Wine Market and public events in St. Augustine, as well as Maui’s Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center and The Crossroads Art Center in Richmond Virginia.

Growing up in the U.S. Air Force, Scott began drawing at the age of eleven, winning scholarships to Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, where he majored in commercial art and illustration.

As an agency creative director and freelancer, he’s been involved in computer graphics, photography, copywriting, electronics, sound and video production. From 1983, Scott was a Marketing Manager and consultant for Apple Computer on projects in the US, Hawai’i and Australia.

During twenty years in Hawai’i, the art and culture of the islands brightened his palette and influenced his technique as a modern impressionist. Now, after a sabbatical in Southwest Britain and painting classes in Ireland, he has settled in St. Augustine Florida.

For the last few years Mr. Waters has concentrated on painting with an iPad and stylus. Recently he produced a series of landscapes and portraits of local musicians that combine classic techniques with contemporary media while maintaining the qualities of traditional painting.
