SAINT AUGUSTINE: Immerse yourself in everything Downton Abbey® Oct. 4, 2017, with a special companion lecture series and luncheon that would even impress the Dowager Countess of Grantham.
Jessica Fellowes, Author and Speaker on everything Downton Abbey®, will be hosting two distinctive lectures with a VIP High-Tea luncheon intermission in Flagler College’s historic Flagler Room and Solarium.
Fellowes is into her fifth year of global lectures, accompanying her latest official companion books to the hit television series: ‘The Wit & Wisdom of Downton Abbey’, a collection of her favorite quotes, and ‘Downton Abbey: A Celebration’, a review of all six series; both were on the New York Times’ bestseller lists. As niece of creator and scriptwriter Julian Fellowes, Jessica is well placed to deliver insights into the real-life inspirations behind the show.
Tickets to the morning lecture, afternoon lecture, and luncheon can be purchased at lightnermuseum.org/Jessica-Fellowes. Guests may choose to purchase tickets to one event, two events, or all three events.
Fellowes’s morning lecture, Downton Abbey: ‘At Home With the Family’, will transport listeners to the beginning of the 20thcentury and talk about life as an “upstairs” member of the Downton family and how it relates to the Lightner Museum’s very own history of the guests at the time of the Alcazar Hotel during the Gilded Age. This lecture will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on October 4, 2017, in Flagler College’s “Flagler Room”, what was formerly the Women’s Grand Parlor of the Ponce de Leon Hotel.
“One is not given many chances in life and if you miss them, they may not necessarily be repeated.” – Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham.
An exclusive luncheon hosted by Fellowes will be held in Flagler College’s Solarium overlooking the City of St. Augustine and the former Alcazar Hotel. The luncheon will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. “Tea time” attire is encouraged.
“Make sure your hat matches your shoes”. – Elizabeth Graham, Lightner Museum Educator
In the afternoon lecture titled: Downton Abbey: ‘Behind the Green Baize Doors, Fellowes will talk about life as a “downstairs” member of the Downton family and how it relates to the Lightner Museum’s very own history of staff at the time of the Alcazar Hotel at the turn of the 20th century. This lecture will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Flagler College’s “Flagler Room”, what was formerly the Women’s Grand Parlor of the Ponce de Leon Hotel.
“Do I look like a frolicker?” – Mrs. Patmore
This distinguished lecture series and luncheon are part of a program companion series to Lightner Museum’s exhibition: Dressing Downton: Changing Fashions for Changing Times™, a thirteen-week display of 36 authentic Edwardian Era costumes and accessories from PBS’s most popular television drama in history, Dressing Downton™, which will be elegantly displayed in the Museum’s Grand Ballroom Gallery.
