SAINT AUGUSTINE– Vilano Beach Main Street, Inc. will host the second Dish N Fish culinary event in the Vilano Beach Town Center April 8 from noon to 8 pm. Dish N Fish is a culinary tourism event which is a collaborative fundraising partnership with the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association (FRLA) in partnership with VISIT FLORIDA, and Vilano Beach Main Street to raise awareness of the coastal community and area dining benefits for visitors and residents.
From 3 to 5 pm a Chef Competition among High School Culinary students (ProStart Program) will be featured. Five teams from around the area will compete under the tutelage of master chefs preparing favorite recipes. Winning teams will receive school grants and culinary prizes. The Dishes of the Day will feature fish and seafood classics common to Northeast Florida (shrimp, fish and more). Multiple food stations will be available for tantalizing taste sensations. Samples will be offered by area food vendors will be available for modest donations. A wide variety of beverages will be available from area wine distributors and craft beer makers. Meals from chef stations will be available for $15 and under.
The full music line-up of entertainment for afternoon listening includes Amy Hendrickson, Dewey Via, Sam Pacetti, Chelsea Saddler, Smokin’ Joe Schauer, Ron Norris and Crawford Boyd. This year’s event also features two area dance groups: Showtime USA and the Legacy Irish Dancers beginning at 12 pm under a large tent in Vilano Beach Town Center across from Publix at Poplar Avenue. There will be continuous entertainment all afternoon 12 pm til 8 pm interspersed with raffle drawings, awards and food tastings. Arts and culinary vendors will also be on site. A family zone features games and face painting.
This year’s event includes additional Tour of Home activities for Friday and Saturday to allow visitors to stay and play all weekend. The events include a Home Seminar on Friday from 2 pm to 4pm, a Sea Turtle Soiree on Friday evening on the Vilano Pier from 7 pm to 10 pm, and the actual Tour of Homes on Saturday from 10 am til 6 pm in the Town Center. The festival requires many volunteers. Perks for volunteering for the Dish N Fish include a novelty gift and free admission. Tour of Homes house greeters receive one free Home Tour ticket.
