TripExpert 2017 Experts Choir honors

Ximenez-Fatio House will be one location for the Seminole War Convocation.

SAINT AUGUSTINE –  The historic Ximenez-Fatio House Museum,   t 20 Aviles St., in downtown St. Augustine is among the recipients of the 2017 Experts’ Choice Award fromTripExpert. The Award recognizes the best attractions around the world based on reviews by journalists and professional travel writers.

According to TripExpert, less than two percent of all attractions worldwide receive the award. As one of the top attractions in St. Augustine , the Ximenez-Fatio House has also received TripExpert’s Best of Saint Augustine award which assures travelers they can be confident about the venue as a leading, worthwhile activity in the area.

With approval from travel publishers including Michelin Guide, Fodor’s, and Lonely Planet, TripExpert’s ratings are from professional reviewers only in travel guides, magazines, newspapers and other respected sources. The Choice Awards includes 7,000 of the world’s best hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions that have been honored with the award, which is based on reviews in top travel media.

To be eligible, venues must have a TripExpert score of at least 70. The score is calculated based on reviews in more than 70 source publications. Venues must typically be in the top 10 percent of similar venues in the relevant destination.

TripExpert is a comprehensive guide to the best places to stay, the best restaurants to dine at, and the top sights to see while also rating hotels, restaurants and things to do. It features over one million reviews from leading travel media. TripExpert provides an alternative to sites powered by user reviews.

The historic Ximenez-Fatio House structures and grounds were built in 1798 by Andres Ximenez, a Spanish storekeeper. For example, the original portion of the Ximenez-Fatio House includes a coquina house and the detached kitchen which became a tavern, private residence and later a fine boarding house for military officers, sea captains, dignitaries and families from the north and south.

The Ximenez-Fatio House Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am. to 4 p.m. and tours of the buildings and rooms are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed Sundays and Mondays. The property is available for group functions including weddings and events. During tours, regular admission is free for St. Johns County residents; adults $10; children, students, seniors and military $8, and the family rate is $20. Private group rates are $6.50 per person.

The Ximenez-Fatio House is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the Historic American Buildings Survey. It is a Florida Heritage Landmark and is also recognized as an integral part of the St. Augustine Town Plan National Historic Landmark District. The House is rated as a top attraction in St. Augustine by TripAdvisor and holds a Certificate of Excellence designation which is awarded to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn the highest levels of reviews from travelers.
