SAINT AUGUSTINE. – The St. Augustine Community Chorus, under the direction of Michael Sanflippo, will present its celebrated Masterworks concert featuring TWO GLORIAS: Vivaldi and Poulenc.at 2 p.m. May 14 in the Cathedral Baslica of St. Augustine. This program features Shannon McKay, organ, chamber orchestra, and soloists Hannah J Mazur, soprano, and Regina Torres, mezzo-soprano.
Vivaldi’s Gloria, written in the early 18th century, contrasts greatly with Poulenc’s setting, which premiered some 250 years later in 1961. Listeners will discover both abundant contrast as well as some commonalities in these two choral masterworks which are dynamic standards in the choral repertoire. This premier concert is a culminating event of St. Augustine’s Romanza Festivale of the Arts.
