The Skipjack Launch Celebration is July 13 at the Lighthouse boat ramp. Christening is at 5:30 p.m., with the launch at 6 p.m.  First built and used by commercial shad fishermen on the St. Johns River, the Florida Skipjack dominated the St. Johns shad fishery and became one of the most common type of small sailing craft in Northeast Florida.  Volunteer boat builders have just completed this project to give us a working example of the watercraft commonly seen on our local waterways.
