SAINT AUGUSTINE – The Lightner Museum welcomes Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra, the world’s premier Jazz-Age dance orchestra, to the Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times™ exhibition opening reception, October 3, 2017, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visit www.lightmermuseum.org/opening-reception for tickets.
The Dreamland Orchestra is best known for performances at high end events including the Cannes Film Festival, The Manhattan Cocktail Classic, and the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island in New York City. Arenella created the orchestra and the lawn party to fulfill his lifelong fascination with times past, and he transcribes all of the orchestra’s repertoire by hand.
“When I saw the Lightner Museum and how perfectly suited my orchestra is for the space and its history, I knew we had to come to St. Augustine to perform for the opening reception. I’m a huge railroad history buff, and the Lightner’s origins as the crown jewel hotel of the Flagler railroad of the early 20th century sealed the deal!” said Michael Arenella, creator of his Dreamland Orchestra.
See the exhibition before it opens to the public at the Opening Reception from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Dressing Downton™, a 13-week display of 36 authentic Edwardian Era costumes and accessories from PBS’s most popular television drama in history, Downton Abbey, will be elegantly displayed in the Museum’s Grand Ballroom Gallery.
Hors d’oevres, early 20th century inspired cocktails, music, and snobbery will ensue. Period appropriate attire is encouraged. Parking is free after 5 p.m.
Rub elbows with Jessica Fellowes, author and speaker on everything Downton Abbey®. Jessica Fellowes is in her fifth year of global lectures, accompanying her latest official companion books to the hit television series. Her books, The Wit & Wisdom of Downton Abbey, a collection of her favorite quotes, and Downton Abbey: A Celebration, a review of all six seasons, were on the New York Times’ bestseller lists. As niece of creator and scriptwriter Julian Fellowes, Jessica is well placed to deliver insights into the real-life inspirations behind the show.
