SAINT AUGUSTINE – The Council on Aging announces a variety of upcoming events both in St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra Beach.
The St. Johns County Falls Prevention Coalition, in conjunction with National Falls Prevention Day, is getting ready for the 2017 Walk Steady expo, Sept. 23 at the Solomon Calhoun Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will take part in the mile walk, health screenings, balance assessments, and demonstrations! Plus there will be complimentary healthy snacks and door prizes.
The COA Integrative Memory Enhancement Program at the Ponte Vedra Memory Care Center has openings for enrollment. Class size is limited to 10 participants; fee for service with subsidies available for those who qualify. This is a structured, research-based program for people with early memory loss or suspected memory changes. This program is designed to boost cognitive reserves and help maintain memory function. There are five-hour programs and shorter, Memory Modules, both available to help those individuals challenged with early memory loss.
Bellydance for Healing is a dance class that combines the ancient movements of bellydance, with a variety of healing & relaxation practices. Women of all ages, dance abilities & backgrounds are encouraged to attend. This 4 week series class will be held at River House, 179 Marine St.,, on Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 10, 17, 24 & 31. Hand lettering Calligraphy Class – Join Cami for a fun day of learning the techniques of what is known today as “Faux Calligraphy” or Hand Lettering Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. – noon. at River House, 179 Marine S. No experience is necessary and all supplies are included in the cost. Cost for members is $50 and $55 for non-members.
