Volunteers always welcomed at COA

SAINT AUGUSTINE – A discussion on marine debris will be presented at 11 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 22 by Kelly Ussia, park naturalist for St. Johns County. Lunch follows her presentation.

The Sunshine Center in St. Augustine, owned and operated by the St Johns County Council on Aging, at 180 Marine St., has openings for enrollment; there is a fee for service with subsidies available for those who qualify.

This is a closely monitored and structured activity program for people with special needs such as those afflicted with medical conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s, or memory loss.   This program is designed with a well-rounded day of activities to include social, physical, and cognitive stimulation. A male volunteer needed Thursdays to assist Facilitators in Integrative Memory Enhancement program from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Location of program is Riverview Community Center in the shores neighborhood. Must be able to push a wheelchair. Call 904- 209-3686 or email

Volunteers needed Thursday mornings to help with basic lawn care for seniors in need. Duties include mowing, raking, clipping and edging. Call) 904-209-3686 or email

Volunteer needed to pick up bread from local grocery store and deliver to Trout Creek Senior Center twice a week. Call 904- 209-3686 or email

*HASTINGS VOLUNTEERS are needed Mondays and/or Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to assist with senior center activities, such as set up for breakfast and lunch, craft projects, games, etc. Call (904CAll 904-) 209-3686 or email

Caregiver 101 classes and Support Group for Caregivers of Persons with Dementia are available in both St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra Beach. Classes are ongoing, free and are held one Tuesday afternoon a month at two locations: 180 Marine St., St. Augustine, and 1048 A1A North, Ponte Vedra Beach FL.. The next class will be held August 15 from 3 – 4:30 pm at Ponte Vedra Memory Care Center, 1048 A1A North, Ponte Vedra, FL 32082.
