SAINT AUGUSTINE – The agenda for Monday’s regular meeting of the St. Augustine City Commission allows time to receive input from the community regarding the future of a Confederate monument in the Plaza de la Constitutión.
The meeting is at 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28 in The Alcazar Room, City Hall, 75 King St. As are all Commission meetings, it will be available for viewing live on GTV/Comcast channel 3 and at www.CityStAugTV.com.
The meeting’s agenda is available at www.CityStAug.com
“Any decision regarding this monument will be handled in the same manner as any other matter in our city government by first receiving public input,” said John Regan City Manager. “The city’s elected officials are the arbitrators of public policy and by inviting public input on this specific topic, the Commission can first hear from the community before any decision is made.”
Locally, two monuments have been the subject of local interest. One is located in the Plaza which is under the jurisdiction of the City of St. Augustine, and the other, located on the corner of King St. and Cordova St. is under the jurisdiction of the State of Florida.
The meeting will be available for on-demand viewing at www.CityStAug.com by mid-afternoon on the following day, Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Repairs to Swing Park
Swing Park, located adjacent to the Historic Downtown Parking Facility, will close on Thursday, Aug.31, and Davenport Park, located at the corner of San Marco and W. San Carlos Ave., next to the carousel, will close on Thursday, Sept. 7, so that Facilities crews have clear access to the parks for mulch replacement and replenishment.
Oversize equipment and machinery is necessary for this task and in order to ensure the work is completed safely and in a timely manner, the Facilities crews will close the parks for two days. Signs will be posted at both locations to notify the public of the upcoming closures and the public is asked to avoid the area while work is underway.
This schedule may be altered as a result of inclement weather.
