Grace Church is located at 8 Carrera St. in downtown St. Augustine.

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

First Coast Opera announces a Halloween weekend concert of ghostly encounters and beautiful tunes. The program will feature music from gypsies, phantoms, “mad” scenes, and a séance, as well as many of the most iconic and beautiful ensembles from opera.

Presentations will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Mark Lance Armory; and at 4 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Ponte Vedra Beach Concert Hall.

Audiences are invited to attend in costume if the spirit moves them!

According to FCO Artistic Director Curtis Tucker, the program is not intended to frighten, but rather to inspire and uplift. “Many of classical music’s most memorable melodies come from opera, especially in ensembles for two, three, four or more singers,” says Tucker. “We’re going to highlight many of them in this program, and those melodies, or ‘earworms,’ just may haunt audience members until Halloween!”

The program will include excerpts from Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor, Faust, Tosca, Menotti’s The Medium, Gilbert and Sullivan, and others. Headlining the cast are soprano Kirsten Chambers, who made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the past year, Clearwater tenor Samuel Hall, a favorite from last season’s Mario Lanza concert, and New York-based baritone Ron Loyd.

Joining them are soprano Brittany Fouché from Jacksonville, and mezzo sopranos Janet Rabe-Meyer from Ormond Beach and Sarah Nordin from Tampa and Saint Augustine baritone Dirk Gavin McCoy.

New York-based music director Keith Chambers, who conducted last season’s Madama Butterfly, will accompany on piano.

Tickets are available at www.firstcoastopera.com.

The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall production is co-sponsored by

The Friends of the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall.
