SAINT AUGUSTINE – A busy weekend is shaping for St. Johns County.
The annual Datil Pepper Fall Festival – which pays tribute to the zesty pepper unique to this community – is staged the first full weekend of October – Oct. 7 and 8 at the St. Johns County Agricultural Center, 3125 Agricultural Center Drive, west of the old city just off State Road 16.
This 10th annual festival continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 and features everything from a restaurant cook-off to workshops, plant sales and much more. Among the Sunday highlights is the ever popular amateur datil pepper hot sauce contest. For that entries are due at the Ag Center by 4 p.m. Oct. 5.
The restaurant cook-off is Saturday, and taste tickets for that are $1, going on sale at 11 a.m., 30 minutes before the cook-off.
This year the UF/IFAS Extension St. Johns County is partnering with Putnam-St. Johns Farm Bureau. Sponsors include Beach 105.5 FM, Endorphin Farms, Capital City Bank and Craft’s Trophies and Awards.
