Calling former patients
Between 1918 and 1958 Mary Lawson Hospital in Palatka served thousands in the area. It was a hospital that was integrated during days when that was rare.
This Saturday (Oct. 14) at 10 a.m. people are gathering at the former hospital site at St. Johns Avenue and South Ninth Street for a photo. If you were born at the hospital or treated there or worked there, you’re asked to take part.
Mary Lawson’s granddaughter, Palatka City Commissioner and Vice Mayor Mary Lawson Brown, wants to include the picture in documentation being taken to Washington, D.C., for inclusion in the new National Museum of African American History and Culture.
