PUTNAM COUNTY – The Putnam County Library System announces numerous special events this 11th month of 2017. Among them:
The Angel Book Trees are up at all five branches of the Putnam County Library System and the Edgar Johnson Senior Center. Goal this year is to help 310 local children who are currently in Foster Care and Protective Management or the Lee-Conlee House.
Just 1) take a paper angel off the tree and 2) return it with an unwrapped book by Wednesday, November 29th to the library. Each angel has a child’s name, age, and type of book wanted.
Picture Book Month is being celebrated by encouraging parents to read at least 25 picture books with their children during the month of November. We’re also launching the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” challenge. You’ll start seeing 1,000 Books Reading Logs at the Front Desk or Children’s Area of your library this week! Here’s how to participate:
- Pick up a 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Log at the library. Each one lets you log the Title and Author of 25 books.
- Challenge yourself and your family to complete at least one reading log during the month of November.
- Write down all of the books that your child reads or that you read to your child. Remember to include library storytimes or those in preschool or daycare and stories of faith and religion, Any and all books and stories count and you may count the same story multiple times (because we know children often enjoy reading the same book over and over again… we love that, too!).
- After November, keep reading and keep logging those books! If you read just 4 books a week, your child will have read 1,000 books in five years!
