From landscaping to musical events

SAINT AUGUSTINE – The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension service in St. Johns County will conduct a Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance (LCLM) certification workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Wind Mitigation Building, 3111 Agricultural Center Drive.

Participants of the course will complete the 6-hour training required in order to apply for a LCLM certification license. Six total Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be awarded (3 LCLM and 3 Core) that can also be counted towards recertification for current LCLM license holders. Following the workshop, eligible participants will be offered the opportunity to take the LCLM certification exam.

Commercial landscape maintenance workers that apply any pesticides, including herbicides, in the landscape are required by law to be licensed. The LCLM Certification Program is designed to allow commercial landscape maintenance personnel to make pesticide applications, using materials such as glyphosate, with signal word “Caution,” to ornamental and plant beds only. It does not allow personnel to make applications to turf areas. Restrictions on application equipment also apply.

The registration fee is $50 and light refreshments will be served. The workshop is limited to 40 individuals. The St. Augustine High School Chorus will be presented in a special performance Dec. 8 at the Oldest House Museum Complex, 14 St. Francis St. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the concert begins at 7 p.m.

Learn to Read of St. Johns County will present a book fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at Barnes & Noble. Participants include Susan Calfee, C. Finotti, Diane Quick-Machaby, Nany Haddock, former Florida Game Warden Bob H. Lee, Sue Scheff, Amy Quincy and Arthur Mendenhall.

A Lego building competition is also planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with prizes awarded at 4 p.m. for ages 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16.

The fair is free and open to the public. A percentage of all book and cafe sales at the store that day will be donated to Learn to Read, as well online sales through Feb. 9.Participants must use the B&N Voucher #12120747 at purchase to ensure credit to Learn to Read.


The EMMA Concert Association presents “Amahl and The Night Visitors” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at Lewis Auditorium, Flagler College. A traditional holiday sing-along will be part of the holiday celebration.
