SAINT AUGUSTINE – Scott Marosek returns to perform a solo piano recital at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 24 in St. Anastasia Catholic Church. The concert is free and open to the public.
“Scott delighted our audience last year and was specifically invited back for an encore performance by our pastor, Father Timothy Lindenfelser this year,” said Peter Morin, music director at the church.
Morin notes that “Scott has an extensive background in classical piano performances as well as jazz piano adventures.”
Marosek will perform classical piano selections for the first half of the concert that will feature music by Bach and Haydn. In the second half he will perform jazz improvisations on sacred melodies and other contemporary period pieces.
Marosek has performed in China, Israel, and throughout the United States. He earned a doctorate in musical arts from the University of North Texas and a Master of Music degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. He holds an endowed chair position in the Fayetteville, N.C. Symphony Orchestra. As an Associate Professor at Methodist University in Fayetteville, he teaches piano and music history and spends his summers teaching young pianists at the Methodist University Summer Jam.
The concert is one of many performances in the 2017-2018 concert series at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. The final performance of this current series will feature the Jacksonville University Orchestra at 6 p.m. on April 22.
A free-will collection will be taken at the concerts for those who wish to contribute to the event expenses. Free parking is provided at the church which is located at 5202 A1A South on Anastasia Island. For information call 471-5364.
