SAINT AUGUSTINE – The St. Augustine Humane Society launched its eighth annual Pin Up Paws pet calendar photo contest in June to support the non-profit’s mission of promoting healthy lifelong pet ownership and reducing the rate of relinquishment to shelters. For a chance to have a pet featured in the full color, high-quality calendar, photos of pets were submitted with heartfelt and entertaining descriptions to let people know why they should vote for the pet to be featured in the calendar for donations starting at $1 for votes. According to Carolyn Smith, executive director of the Humane Society, more than $25,400 was raised by the entries and voting efforts this year which sets a record amount for donations to the campaign since 2011. The three top winners in votes are all from St. Augustine and feature Petey Farley, a Lab mix dog that raised $2,130. Petey serves as a greeter at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. Allistair Bazhaw, is a Yorkshire Terrier and raised $1,765, and Myrtle Ashton, a tabby cat raised $1,646.
Currently, Smith and her team are creating the calendar with first place winners to receive the coveted cover spot for the calendar and in the consecutive 12 months of pages. Runners-up will be featured throughout the pages of the calendar.

Styling and photography sessions are provided by award winning photographer, Addison Fitzgerald who has donated his talents to the Humane Society since the calendar’s inception. Local fine artist and graphic designer, Maribel Angel continues to donate her creative talents to designing a distinctive calendar publication. And, for the fourth year, the Humane Society received a promotional billboard donated by Clear Channel Outdoor for eight weeks along I-95 in St. Johns County.

The calendar will be revealed a Pin Up Paws Party on Saturday, Oct. 13 with winning cars to be on display and a live auction of merchandise, vacations, trips and services. The party will be held from5 pm until 8:30 pm at F.O.P. Lodge, 5050 Inman Rd. in St. Augustine. All proceeds from submissions, votes, sponsorships, event tickets, and calendar sales will benefit the programs and services of the St. Augustine Humane Society including the Humane Society’s spay, neuter and surgery clinic, along with services and programs, and current expansion.
