SAINT AUGUSTINE – Lightner Museum will open its doors free of charge on Saturday Sept. 22, as part of Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day. On this day only, participating museums across the United States emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities, which offer free admission everyday, and open their doors for free to those who download a Museum Day ticket.
Inclusive by design, the event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone. Each pre-registered ticket allows admission for two people. Pre-registration can be obtained on the Smithsonian Magazine website with your e-mail address at https://www.smithsonianmag. com/museumday/museum-day-2018/
“The Lightner Museum is very pleased to be partnering, once again, with Smithsonian’s Museum Day. The Museum feels that this is an excellent opportunity to expose our wonderful facility to a fresh audience of area and national museum goers.”, said Robert W. Harper, Lightner Museum director.
Tickets will be welcomed all day, beginning at 9a.m., last admission at 4:30 p.m.. Special Museum Day activities for families will take place from 11 a.m. to 2p.m., throughout the museum. Museum docents will be on hand to show visitors pictures of the historic Alcazar Hotel’s spa facilities and pool. Additionally a special scavenger hunt created by the Lightner Museum volunteers will take visitors through the open galleries. Music demonstrations on our Victorian instruments will be at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
