Lighthouse celebration includes Liminary Night, book signing and more

SAINT AUGUSTINE – The St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum celebrates the holiday season with Luminary Night  from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec.

  1. This event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the food bank at the Christian Service Center of St Augustine.

Highlights include entertainment by the St. Augustine High School Classic Guitar Ensemble, Limelight Theatre Show Choir,  St. Augustine Youth Chorus and additional groups.

Pictures with Santa continue from 6:15 to 9 p.m. on the Keepers House front porch.



Special events  continue at the Lighthouse in coming days and weeks.

Brendan Burke, Associate Director of Lighthouse Archaeology, will fdiscuss  the Shrimping in St. Augustine at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum.

Dec. 15 and 16 from 1-4 p.m., at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum Gift Shop, St. Augustine illustrator, Deborah L. Spiller, will be signing and selling copies of the new bilingual edition of SNOWBALL, THE BEAR WHO SAVED CHRISTMAS.

With the original illustrations still in place, this larger format softcover edition tells Snowball’s story in English and Spanish and sells for $14.95. Proceeds will benefit the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum.

The original story was penned by Dr. Gerry Gamache of St. Augustine.


The Lighthouse’s 145th birthday will be celebrated Jan. 2-4, with the following  schedule::

  • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day
  • K-3rd grades
  • Lunch, snacks, backpack, water bottle, t-shirt included with camp fees
  • $90 for all three days, or $40 per day
  • Members receive 10% off
