Register for Plein Air Paint Out
SAINT AUGUSTINE – The St. Augustine Art Association presents the 3rd Annual St. Augustine Plein Air Paint Out, April 23 – May 1.
The event attracts fine artists from near and far seeking to capture the historic, architectural and coastal beauty of the nation’s oldest city. Artists may register now through April 16, online atwww.staaa.org/pleinair.
Several events are planned for the citywide gathering. A QuickDraw rapid painting contest takes place at the Lightner Museum Gardens, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. The public is invited to meet the artists and see their paintings come to life on the easel.
Field Demos by well-known plein air artists are scheduled throughout the day on Friday, April 26, at the Castillo de San Marcos, St. Augustine Lighthouse, Flagler College and other sites.
Nocturne Night in Olde Town on April 30, features artists painting at sunset along the Bayfront and historic Aviles and Charlotte Streets.
During the Paint Out, artworks in progress may be viewed and purchased in the St. Augustine Art Association “Wet Room.” Finished paintings will be showcased in the juried exhibition, “Where Art Meets History,” May 3 – 26, at the St. Augustine Art Association Association, 22 Marine Street.
“Plein air painting has a rich history in St. Augustine,” said Elyse Brady, Executive Director of the Art Association. “Our charming streets, coastal setting and exquisite architecture have inspired artists for centuries, and we’re excited to carry on the tradition.”
$10,000 GRANT
The National Endowment for the Arts selected the St. Augustine Art Association to receive a $10,000 grant for the 3rd Annual St. Augustine Plein Air Paint Out because it promotes community engagement through art. PleinAir Magazine is also a national sponsor.
Beginner and seasoned artists may participate. The Application fee of $59 includes artist packets, maps, demos, QuickDraw Contest, social events, and eligibility for the juried exhibition. Exhibit awards exceed $2,500, including a $1,000 top prize and PleinAir Magazine artist feature ad, among others.
