Putnam County school crossing guard Flo Harris is in the news. At 97 she is stepping down from the job she’s held for the past 27 years at William D. Moseley Elementary School in Palatka. Students, staff and friends said thanks Thursday with a farewell party. Children got involved, helping decorate the cookies. The Sheriff put a star on his and Miss Flo — why a stop sign, of course.

Palm Sunday will see the continuation of a longtime ceremony in St. Augustine — the annual Blessing of the Fleet Sunday at noon at the St. Augustine Municipal Marina. The Bishop of St. Augustine will officiate,  leading the procession from the Cathedral Basilica along the Plaza and to the Marina where boats ranging from working craft to pleasure craft will be waiting. On Saturday in Palm Coast a Blessing of the Fleet is set for 3 p.m. at Yacht Harbor Village. Father Robert Goolsby of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Palm Coast will officiate.

You can feel a little safer driving on Interstate 95 —the Florida Department of Transportation now has Road Rangers patrolling in Flagler, Volusia and Brevard counties. For help dial *347 on your cell phone. The new service helps motorists whose vehicles become disabled and is financed under a five-year, $7.3 million contract for patrols on both I-95 and Interstate 75. Sumter and Marion counties began the service last summer.

David Nolan will be honored for his contributions to historic preservations by the City of St. Augustine on April 22. Nolan, who has been an enthusiastic advocate for history, will received the Adelaide Sanchez Award for Historic Education and Interpretation. He was nominated by former Mayor Nancy Shaver.

Fort Matazas beach vehicle access ramp and the parking lot will be closed April 15-30-for ramp demolition and sand replacement. No pedestrian or vehicle access to the beach will be available from that lot although all other lots and boardwalks are open. This ramp is scheduled for replacement winter 2020, the result of a partnership between St. Johns County and the National Park Service to restore vehicular access.

Palatka Art League hosts their spring yard sale Saturday at the historic Tilghman House on River Street. A great chance to find some fun stuff and help support a local organization. In Palm Coast go to the movies with the family tonight at 8 p.m. at Central Park in Town Center. The free movie will be, what else, Peter Rabbit.
