Authorities are investing after a man tried to scale a wall of Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine this morning and fell 15 feet. The incident happened around 2 a.m. at the Old Fort. St. Augustine Police have not released the man’s name or the extent of his injuries. He was taken to an area hospital. The fort is a national park so the man could face federal trespass charges.

One man was killed and two other people injured Friday in a single-car crash outside of Palatka. Florida Highway Patrol said the accident happened about 6:30 p.m. as a 2007 Chevy Silverado was headed north on U.S. 17. According to reports, driver Teresa Ann Sullivan, 35, and passengers  Wesley William Anderson, 35, and James David Thomas, 42, of Palatka were 17 and Seaboard Drive when the accident happened. Sullivan and Anderson are from St. Mary’s, Ga. Thomas, who was killed, was from Palatka. The vehicle went off the road to the right, then cut back to the left, traveling into the center grass median and overturning.

A conference exploring the impacts of sea level rise on coastal and riverside communities is underway in St. Augustine, one of the places vulnerable to such a rise. The Keeping History Above Water conference is looking at developing polices and plans to address the problem. Some predictions say nuisance flooding may become a daily occurrence in the Nation’s Oldest City by 2040.

Flagler County Commissioners should have been discussing the latest options for Captain’s BBQ at Bing’s Landing this morning. However, both sides have raised objections to certain items and the compromise is once again off the table. The planned expansion of the restaurant in the country park has been a contentious item for months. Captain’s says the county would have to pay for the sewer connection before they OK one option. Hammock Community Association, which has been fighting the expansion, now has indicated they won’t accept a new restaurant that would be some 5,200 square feet.

Residents and friends marched in St. Augustine over the weekend seeking action in the investigation of the death of Lavert Durden, 28, who was shot and killed in West Augustine in November. St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the shooting that occurred after Durden was seen arguing with two men. Both of those men have been questioned. Traevon Watson, 20, was interviewed and released. Brandon Calloway, 30, was found in Georgia and is in jail on an unrelated outstanding warrant.
