Honoring those who serve

SAINT AUGUSTINE – Hundreds of flags have been placed in front of the Lightner Museum/City of St. Augustine building this Memorial Day. Each flag carries the name of an individual who served in the U.S. Armed Forces – both living and deceased individuals.

The salute to our military is a project of the Pilot Club of St. Augustine and can be viewed until dusk today. The flags were placed on Saturday by club members and volunteers from the community.

Projects range from support of youth to bringing awareness to all of the plight of those with brain injuries. A standing tribute erected by the club in the Plaza de la Constitucion is the war memorial which carries the names of those who gave their lives in the service of their country in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
