Shabbat services at synagogue

SAINT AUGUSTINE –  Shabbat services will continue this next weekend at First Congregation Sons of Israel, Cordova Street..  Jeff Golden will lead the Erev Shabbat service Nov. 8  at 7:30 p.m.

Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. Bob Schachter will lead the Shabbat service.  Following Saturday’s Shabbat service will be a light kiddush lunch sponsored by Dr. David Bortnick.

The Torah portion will be “Lekh Lekha” from Genesis 12:1-17:27.  Also, the Haftarah comes from Isaiah, 40:27-41:16.  In addition, Nov. 9  marks the remembrance of Kristallnacht or the “Night of the Broken Glass,” which occurred throughout what was Nazi Germany, Nov.9–10, 1938.  This event was a pogrom carried out against Jews, during which Jewish businesses and homes were attacked, synagogues were damaged and destroyed, Jews were beaten and killed, all done with German authorities looking on without intervening.
