Veterans salute at Lighthouse

SAINT AUGUSTINE – The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum will offer FREE admission for US Military Veterans on Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Immediate family members of Veterans will receive 10 percent off admission. Free admission is also available for active military, their spouse, and two children.

Several World War II artifacts from the Museum collection will be on view in the US Coast Guard Coastal Lookout Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Built in 1941, the structure housed “Coasties” who stood watch atop the tower, marking each ship’s location as it passed and keep an eye out for German U-boats.

A World War II exhibit, “Guardians of the First Coast: A World-Wide Story Told through Local Eyes,” is set to open in this space in May 2020.
