News from the city of St. Augustine
Event scheduled for Saturday, January 11
Join the City of St. Augustine Saturday, Jan. 11 for a community cleanup event on Fish Island. Parking will be available in the parking lots of the adjacent office complexes. There will be two shifts: one from 8 – 10a.m. and one from 10 a.m. to noon..
The event is hosted by Matanzas Riverkeeper and anyone interested in participating can register online. This land will forever be enjoyed by the residents, visitors, and greater community at-large.
Although registration is not required, it will be helpful to have an estimate of how many people to expect.
Be sure to come prepared:
- Wear long sleeves and closed-toed shoes for protection from brush and bugs
- Bring bug repellent, sun protection, and a refillable water bottle
- Bring gloves if you have them, otherwise gloves and grabbers will be provided

Public access to gift shop, info center and splash park remains
The St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier at St. Augustine Beach will be closed starting on Monday, January 6 through May 2020 for repairs and rehabilitation. The north beach access point adjacent to the pier will also be closed for the duration of the project and access to the beach near the pier will be intermittently restricted during this time.
The beach access point south of the pier, gift shop, visitor information center, splash park, parking lot, and other park facilities will remain accessible to the public.

New Corridor Review Committee forming, Code Enforcement Board vacancy
The St. Augustine City Commission is accepting applications for volunteers to serve on the recently approved Corridor Review Committee. Information regarding qualifications is available by contacting the City Clerk’s office at 904.825.1007.
In addition, interested individuals are encouraged to apply for the vacancy on the Code Enforcement, Adjustment and Appeals Board.
Applications for both committees are requested by the close of business on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. Appointments to either board are tentatively scheduled for the City Commission meeting on Monday, January 27, 2020.
