Question about apple trees
Q: My Anna apple tree has been in the ground for about two years and it bloomed this year. No fruit set. Do I need another Anna as a pollinator and, if there is a difference, how do I tell if the tree is a male or a female?
A: Anna apple trees will bear fruit without a pollinator. You should get more fruit if you have a Golden Dorsett apple tree as a pollinator. Your tree is a little young to bear much fruit but it will in the next few years.
Q: I started an avocado pit in water. It now has many roots. What do I do to keep it going?
A: You can transfer your avocado into a large pot with light soil. It will take a while for the roots to adapt. Give it a weekly feeding with a liquid fertilizer for several weeks to help it along.
