SAINT AUGUSTINE – Judy Versaggi Angyalfy and her Jockette sisters, a group of former women athletes that have been friends for decades, recently came together to raise money in memory of Carol Slater Driskell. The proceeds of their “fun-raiser” have been donated to the St. Augustine Historical Society’s forthcoming Surf Culture and History Museum.
The Jockettes are composed of ten women: Beth Bowen, Denise Whitlock, Pennie Daniel, Liz Heffner, Jennifer Morris, Judy Versaggi Angyalfy, Linda Riskus, Becky Yanni, Libby Powell, and Terri Hall. When asked to describe their bond, the Jockettes offered a collaborative statement where each woman added their voice. They explain, “The Jockettes are a group of women who have known each other for over 40 years. We found each other due to our love for playing sports (one cheered from the sidelines) and also our love of having fun together.

“ We have supported each other through the best of times and through the worst of times. Our martini glasses are always half full and it is our aim to leave each place we visit better than we found it. Ranging fin ages from 58 to 77, we prize most highly a sense of humor and the ability to laugh through our troubled times as we recognize the best in each other. Carol Driskell embodied everything we value most highly. Her untimely death in 2005 left a gaping hole in our collective heart. For this reason, we are most grateful to be able to honor her memory with our donation to the Surf Culture exhibit and we hope others are inspired to do the same.”
