Question about Christmas palm

Q:  I was at a garden center the other day and saw a large potted palm for sale called a Christmas palm. I like the look of the plant but have not seen any around here. Is this a plant that will do well here?

A: The Christmas palm is not very cold hardy and is better suited for South Florida. It is a smaller palm and can be kept in a large pot. I would hesitate to plant one in the landscape in North Florida. Sooner or later the cold will kill it.
