Fill out that rubber tree
Q: I have a rubber tree plant that is growing straight up. How can I get it to branch and fill out?
A: If you cut the top bud out of the plant it will send out a side shoot. Simply cut it several inches from the top. The plant will bleed a latex-like liquid when cut so you may want a rag on hand to prevent a mess.
Q: My vinca and geraniums did not freeze this winter and are now quite leggy. Can they be cut back to make them more compact?
A: Prune them back by up to one-third and fertilize them after pruning. Doing these things will create a fuller plant with increased flower production.
