Chillin’ in the summer heat

PALATKA – K9s serving the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office are beating the heat this summer with sunglasses.

According to the department’s website: “The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office hasa full-service K-9 Unit. Patrol K-9 teams specially trained narcotics detection, tracking and suspect apprehension work alongside our patrol deputies. A narcotics detection K-9 team is also assigned to the Youth Resource Section to help eradicate narcotics from within the public schools of Putnam County. Our three Patrol K-9s and one school allocated K-9 are German Shepherds.

“The Sheriff’s Office also utilizes a Bloodhound team to track and locate missing persons. Our current bloodhound K-9 Putnam has recovered numerous people including children and dementia patients as well as tracked criminals. In 2019 we added a bloodhound puppy, K-9 Grace, to help train and eventually replace K-9 Putnam.”
