Give time for plant to establish itself
Q. I have recently planted an elephant ear that has a leaf problem. The outer edge yellows and then the whole leaf declines. What is wrong?
A. Elephant ears have only several leaves at any given time. If it is sending our new leaves it is normal for the older leaf to decline. The plant may just be establishing itself and putting energy into the roots. The problem will most likely correct itself in time.
Q. Our house has a large blank wall as you approach the front door. It is the garage wall. I would like to espalier a plant on it. What are some plants that can be trained to grow there?
A. Plants that are suited to espalier include podocarpus, fatshegera, magnolia, dogwood and pyracantha. Light conditions need to be consider before making a final selection.
